Another Summer Signing - 18th July 2008

With the recent announcement of signing stand-out Welsh youngsters Joe Franks and Lloyd Roberts, the Cardiff Celts are delighted to be able to confirm that Ben Tumelty (aged 19) will feature in the 2008/09 season.

Ben returns to Cardiff after a year of University in London to continue his studies and to develop his basketball.

Ben commented “I can’t wait to get into the mix again. My last year with the Celts was great fun and my game developed dramatically. I am looking forward to the challenges of Division 1 Senior basketball and furthering my game with the Celts.”

Before his stint in London, Ben made a huge contribution to the Celts Under 18 South West Conference Championship in the 2006/07 season. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, and a great eye for the basket, Ben dominated the shooing guard position and often led the team in scoring. Along with being part of that Championship team, Ben’s honours also include representation for Wales at the Under 16 and 18 levels.

“I am really pleased that Ben is coming back. He developed so much in one year with our Junior programme, I am sure he can step up to the Senior level” Coach Horrocks said. “Our goal at the Celts is play at the highest level possible with Welsh players. The Celts squad contains great Welsh junior talent with the likes of Ben, Joe Franks, Lloyd Roberts and Dan Pulman who, I am sure, are going to benefit from the extremely competitive squad and become better players. Our experienced players like Matt Daw, Mike Gregory, Tony Berry and Asa Waite had better look over their shoulders, because I know these young guys are hungry for minutes!”
